Submissions Guidelines
Please submit all articles in either Open Office (.odt), Microsoft Office (.doc or .docx) or RTF (.rtf) format.
If you use another word processing package than the above three, please consult your software's "Save As" function for saving documents in one of the above three formats.
Please do not include figures or graphs within your articles. You should however make note of where in the article you would like them to appear.
You can consult the APA documentation on how to do this.
An acceptable method is as follows:
=============================
Place figure 1 here
=============================
Please name each article according to the conventions given below:
First author's initials (2 or 3 spaces), dash, year (4 spaces), dash, article number submitted to this journal (this year) (as a letter), dot, and the file extension (either .odt, .doc .docx or .rtf). For example, Josey Alvarez submitting her second article in 2010 (in Open Office format) would name the article as follows:
JA-2010-B.odt
FiguresPlease submit all figures and tables in a graphic file format. Tiff, GIF, PNG and Jpeg files only will be accepted. Irrespective of the size of the figure or table, the graphic's file must be rendered in 72 dpi and be 8.5x11 inches (or ISO A4) in dimension (white space is allowed in one dimension only). Photographs only, may be rendered greater than 72 dpi. In fact we encourage this. Again, any photographs must be in 8.5x11 format (or ISO A4) with white space in one dimension only.
Please name each figure according to the conventions given below:
First author's initials (2 or 3 spaces), dash, year (4 spaces), dash, article number submitted to this journal (this year), dash, a numeral for the order of appearance in the article (2 spaces), dot, and the file extension (either .jpg {.jpeg}, .gif, .png or .tif {.tiff}). For example, Josey Alvarez submitting her second article in 2010 with 3 jpeg figures would name the figures as follows:
JA-2010-B-1.jpeg, JA-2010-B-2.jpeg, JA-2010-B-3.jpeg.
Please include image files with the submission of your article. Again, please identify the approximate location of your images within the article according to the guidelines given in the APA manual.
PermissionsAuthors of accepted papers must obtain and provide to the editor on final acceptance all necessary permissions to reproduce in print and electronic form any copyrighted work, including, for example, test materials (or portions thereof) and photographs of people.
Publication PoliciesManuscripts may be submitted to the CJHSS concurrently with submissions to other journals. Please consult the publication policy of any other journal to which you will be submitting your article. Many journals do not allow multiple concomitant submissions of an article. The CJHSS requires authors to reveal any possible conflict of interest in the conduct and reporting of research (e.g., financial interests in a test or procedure, funding by pharmaceutical companies for drug research). Please see the disclosure of interest form on the "Instructions to Authors" page of the CJHSS website.
Ethical PrinciplesThe CJHSS supports the Ethical Principles of the APA. We expect all authors of articles published within the CJHSS to comply with these principles. The following are statements on ethical principles from the APA website. Please forward any questions or concerns about potential ethical violations to Dr Jeremy Jackson, Editor, CJHSS.
It is a violation of CJHSS Ethical Principles to publish "as original data, data that have been previously published" (Standard 8.13). In addition, CJHSS Ethical Principles specify that "after research results are published, psychologists do not withhold the data on which their conclusions are based from other competent professionals who seek to verify the substantive claims through reanalysis and who intend to use such data only for that purpose, provided that the confidentiality of the participants can be protected and unless legal rights concerning proprietary data preclude their release" (Standard 8.14).
APA expects authors to adhere to these standards. Specifically, APA expects authors to have their data available throughout the editorial review process and for at least 5 years after the date of publication.
Authors are required to state in writing that they have complied with APA ethical standards in the treatment of their sample, human or animal, or to describe the details of treatment. Download Certification of Compliance With APA Ethical Principles Form (PDF: 26KB)
